Two exciting wordpress contests has been announced. Contests are hosted by Weblog Tools Collections and Sandbox WordPress Theme.

WordPress Plugins Competition
Hosted by Weblog Tools Collectioin. Began at June 1st and runs to July 31.

Contestants are challenged to produce new WordPress Plugins. New created plugins should be submitted through the Plugin Competition Blog. For those following the exciting new Plugins, the blog will feature them as they are released.

There is a Contact Form for questions and sponsorships (some great prizes will be awarded), and a list of the Preliminary Rules for entering the competition.

Do you wanna follow this contest but having no idea what plugin to be created?You might want to read some great ideas in Lorrelle blog titled “Wanted: WordPress Plugins for Me”. It contains a list of plugins that Lorelle need, I think the list could give you some idea about what plugin you will create.

WordPress Theme Competition
The Sandbox Designs Competition was announced at 8 June 2007. You can read the details on sandbox.org. For now, total cash prizes provided was US$1,500 divided into 6 winner categories:

1. First prize: US$650
2. Second prize: US$425
3. Third prize: US$275
4. First three (3) runner-ups: a US$50 honorarium for each

Those cash awards amount are subject to change as there might be more sponsor for this competition to come. All information are updated periodically.
