Website,Blog and CMS

I’ve often asked these questions by many of my friends:
- what is a website
- what is a blog
- what is a CMS
- what differs them?
Website is a collection of web pages that hosted in a web server and accessible through internet.A web page is an online document, usually written in HTML or XHTML language, and accessible from user web browser
CMS is an abbreviation of Content Management System’ which is a term used to describe a software for managing various web content. This software aiming to give people who have lack of knowledge on web programming to manage a various and complex web content in an easier way. Basic features of CMS are: News / Article section, Forum, Download directory, Member Area, contact form and Picture Gallery
Blog or Weblog is morelikely a personal website. It usually a website which content ongoing chronicle of any topic. The topic vary from personal to wider topic such as political or economic. It can take a narrow subject on each topic or even a whole range of the topic.
Software to create blog is usually called Blog Software. A lot of blog software out there, the most famous this time are Wordpress and blogger.
Simply speaking, we can create a website using CMS or Blog software. The choice is depend on the feature and content we would like to put in the website. I usually take CMS when I need more complex feature and content in a website.
I’ve been working with CMS such as PHP Nuke and CPG-Nuke for several years before I use blog softwares (blogger and wordpress). Honestly I cant determine the technical difference between CMS and blog since there are now some blog software offering feature to make blog become a CMS site. Even I can create a blog –like site using CMS.
That’s my answer for all questions listed on the beginning of this post. It’s really subjective and based on my own understanding. There are many websites talking about this topic. You can do googling to search them. Below is some post I know talking about this topic:
